She couldn't run fast enough. Her feet just seemed to be mired in quicksand and her words captured by the wind as soon as they escaped her mouth. But just as Rogue moved in slow motion, so did the building. Collapsing down atop the man she loved, his eyes wide as he awaited the death that would finally kill the Juggernaut and keep him from trying again to take Rogue from him. But she could see it all, see the way the building as coming down, yes atop Cain, but down upon Remy as well.

The crash was deafening, blowing out windows all around them and yet Rogue could only hear one thing. Her own scream echoing in her eyes as she skidded to a halt. Pausing, only a moment until the debris that blow around her cleared and then she was climbing over the carnage. Feeling the beaded dress rip and tear as she scrambled over twisted metal, her heels lost as she dug through it all. Her nails splitting, tearing to the quick as she dug her heart out of that wrecked building.

Crying out his name as she pulled him into her arms, holding him tight. "Hold on. Please, Handsome. Just hold on.' She could hear the sirens, knowing that help was on it's way. Just a few more minutes and it would all be okay. A few more minutes and then they could spend eternity together.

"Kiss me, Marion.' His voice was rough and hoarse, barely more than a whisper. "It's my last wish. Kiss me."

"Shut up! don't talk like that. I can't kiss you, Remy. I can't. You need your strength." Tears streaked down her face, her words high and hysterical. "It's not your last wish, Remy! It's not. Shut up!"

But he clung to her tighter, pulling her down to him. "Please, kiss me, ma chere. Kiss me one time."

Crying, sobbing as his mouth met hers. His lips were warm but she could feel the life pouring from him. She could feel him dying in her arms and she couldn't see anything else, couldn't see a way out. They were sinking into a single pinpoint. One soul, two bodies, one person. She could feel his soul leaving, feel it as it entered her soul. Rogue could feel him die in her arms and it was over.

He was gone, on the other side. But she wasn't alone.
