"This is a revolution, and a revolutionary must become a cold-blooded killing machine motivated by pure hate."
~Che Guevara
I saw a guy wearing a Che shirt tonight while I was pumping gas at 2:30 in the morning. I was bored and tired so I decided to ask him about it. Of course he had no idea who Che was. Fidel Castro's greatest executioner? Yup. He was responsible for the torture and execution (without a trial of any kind) of tens of thousands of people in Bolivia (during his debacle of a revolution that turned what had previously been one of Latin America's top economically ranked countries into a shithole of violence and poverty), and Cuban labor camps (read: concentration camps akin to Hitler's). The man was a totalitarian anti-working class Stalanist, and yet he is adored by rich suburbian white children everywhere. I related all of this to the guy at the gas station and he said I "didn't know what [I] was talking about, so [I] should do some reading. Che was a revolutionary, man!". What an asshat. I still find it ironic, though, that a totalitarian communist could become one of capitalisms' hottest selling figures. Go figure. I can't think of a worse backfire in history at the moment. That's karma though. If you torture and murder tens of thousands of people, you will have your life's ideology unwittingly mocked by ignorant people for decades to come.
