Yay driving home from camp and getting a text message from your sister saying "We just got put onto an emergency evacuation." (Why did she decide to send a text message to tell me that in a text message? Didn't she know there are about 80 follow-up questions) Mum and I didn't even know there was a fire at the point in time. Although it was a little modern lit like, because we'd just talked about another smaller brushfire we saw on the side of the road. Yay Irony.
And of course, the absurdity continued. Because while my mum and I navigated LA without a map to try and avoid the fact that every freeway in the world had a major accident on it so she could get back there sooner, my dad, Vicki and Kathy were trying to get to the house to get things like birth certificates and underwear. They had closed all the roads to vehicle AND foot traffic, so my family joined the hordes sneaking in over the network of horse trails and emergency roads that network the back hills of Orange/Anaheim Hills. Which is an amazingly stupid idea during a fire, but we all do and we've all always done it so eh.
And of course, lovely Victoria has a major concert tomorrow and an IB internal assessment due, so as they walk back out carrying clothing, sleeping bags, paperwork and other essentials, she's also carrying an evening gown, posterboards and her $12,000 cello (with $700 bow and $300 worth of strings) out along a dirt horse trail. I love it when our lives turn into short stories.
My house is not in any 'immediate' danger, but the fire is very very close right now, and there's a chaparral regional park and a greenway creek bed that goes from where the fire is to beside the street below mine. This is probably the closest a fire has been in a decade. The odds that the fire would actually get to my house are very slim (because there is a street and two houses between us and any open brush), but that's only about a 100 to 150 yards away, so cinders)
Any prayers/positive thinking/good juju anyone can contribute would be appreciated.
