That isn't bothering her at all; it doesn't matter because there's no door that'll take them back. Madeline knows this with a certain brittle, glossy calm that makes it easy not to mention that her face is bleeding and she doesn't know why. She barely even wondered after she found out - just pulled out the handkerchief and held it where it could best absorb the blood flow.

She hasn't told Gabriel, not yet, just like she hasn't told him about the door. He can't fix either of those things and she doesn't want him to have to worry too much yet. He'll find out the first time he turns and takes a good look at her, but for right now she's just holding his hand and trying to keep up while hanging just far back enough to be on the dimmest edge of the flashlight's range.

The walls are bleeding, too. Maybe they're feeling sympathetic. Madeline thinks she's going to start screaming again very soon and she's not sure she's going to be able to stop.
