30 Days Anime Meme
Day 1 - Very first anime
I have two contenders. I saw Laputa when I was about 6/7. Scared the crap out of me as a kid. >< --> the big robots. Didn’t go back to it till I was about 10 XD I’d tried before but had to fastforward past all the scary stuff. :P Still freaked me out. Third time was a charm in my teens and never looked back.
And there’s also the Little Mermaid. Now I’d forgotten about it until just the other day when I was going through some old vhs videos and there is was. And blinking at it my brain did the … anime? I saw this before the Disney release which was all soppy and made acceptable for the little kiddies. This version had me crying so much. Even when I last watched it I remember it upset me. Which is so silly coz you know - it’s the eternal sacrifice blablabla stuff that turns my stomach now but as a kid that she loved him and she gave her life and turned to foam… really broke me. XD
So after discovering this now I’m not sure which was first as I’m not sure when I saw the little mermaid. I’d say Thundercats but for me Thundercats was never anime - just an ultimate cartoon series I was obsessed by as a kid and as far as I’m aware it was an American show with Japanese animators. So out of preference I’ll go for Laputa. Since it’s still one of my all time fav anime.
