In the guest house in the grounds of the Luthor mansion, just outside the Kansas town of Smallville, Lionel is busy opening a very fine bottle of French wine while an old Sinatra record plays quietly in the background. The music would hardly be his first choice, but Martha had requested it, and it's oddly relaxing on a quiet evening in the country.
They haven't seen each other since their few days on the beach in the Cayman Islands, and he's more than ready to see her again, even if only for an hour or two. He's dressed down, in slacks and a sweater, reading a book while he waits. Who knows when she might arrive.
