Emigrant Lake
Nice hike. It might come close to a tie with Jamison Lake as my favorite, but Jamison still beats it. Drive five miles past Carson Pass on Highway 88 to Caples Lake. The hike along Caples Lake is two miles--about half the hike one way to Emigrant Lake. Another mile brings you to a cutoff to Kirkwood Meadows. Keep going straight to Emigrant Lake. The sign says 2 miles, but that's wrong, it's about one mile from there. Pretty nice waterfall just before reaching the lake. The lake itself is extremely cold. Good for a quick dip, but no extended swimming. Incredibly scenic area.
