If any of you feel strongly about climate change and the need to think about the future, please read the following (also bear in mind that I didn't write it, that's why it sounds the way it does!):
Dear friends,
I thought you would like to know about a new organisation, Avaaz, that is setting up a massive global pressure campaign to demand government action on climate change.
This week, the official UN body on climate science announced that humankind can avert a climate catastrophe--but only if politicians change course, and fast. Avaaz has set up a tool allowing anyone in the world to send their national leaders a personal message on this issue.
The scientific report will be meaningless if it's not backed up by a global outcry. Click here to send a message to world leaders:
Sign the petition here Avaaz.org is a community of global citizens who take action on the major issues facing the world today. Its aim is to ensure that the views and values of the world’s people -- and not just political elites and unaccountable corporations -- shape global decisions. Avaaz.org members are taking action for a more just and peaceful world and a vision of globalization with a human face. Avaaz means "voice" or "song" in a variety of Asian, Middle Eastern and European languages. There are already 1 million people from 189 countries in the Avaaz.org community.
I'm never convinced how much these petitions work (witness the Road Tax fiasco) but it can't hurt to sign it.
