opus 40

it's basically three weeks i've been in town now, and it's not bad. i'm making some progress settling in, settling down in the job and in the flat.
there's a park literally outsied the front door, so that's good for somewhere to go when i have a jog. it's also good for the landscape project, better than it was at chesser.
there's shops a couple of minutes walk away from the flat, even if it's just a small street; somerfields, boots, a couple of cashpoints, it's alright. newsagents, takeaways, and a couple of house clearance shops -i've been in them to look for some furniture; there was a bed, bedside cabinet, wardrobe, and bookcase when i came, but i've added a chair and a desk. they were only like £12 each, so it hardly matters if they last five months or five years. i got a chest of drawers as well, but before the wonan from the shop had loaded them into the van to deliver they'd fallen apart, so she gave me my money back. i'll have a second look for some next month, but might have to get a set for £70 rather than £15.
my flatmate mo is nice; she studies and works in one of the uni's in town. we regularly have a chat, and get on well. rob i don't see so much; in all the time i've been in the flat i've heard his voice more than i've seen him; like he's in his room making a phonecall. i doubt i've seen him more than 5 minutes, and that divided between two occassions. he's bound to know someone is/i'm in as well, which is odd.
dundee isn't bad, it's hardly special (unless you're either into medicine or computer games industry) but there's stuff to like. next week there's am dram which i might go to see. there's also gigs and proper theatre i'll be going to see next month, as well as hopefully a film or two. the dca do arty and foreign films, so it's not a case of the odeon and nothing else. the city is small, there's no hiding it -it's not edinburgh.
as for the job, well it's something; it's not brilliant or ideal or the dream thing, but it's paying the bills and all that. most of the people are friendly and knowledgeable about the place -which helps me since i don't know much. the retail side of the work isn't hard for me as i've done it before; it feels like either i gravitate towards it or it seeks me out, at least at times. hopefully i'm earning brownie points by helping out here and there, and some of the other folk aren't quite so comfortable in the shop as i have been so i can help them. cleaning is simple enough. really it's just a case of getting to know the place better; learning the history, the stories, the objects on display. still, i'm reading a library book so that helps a little.
outside of work things will be beginning to happen next month as well; hopefully some volunteering, a few nights out, donating blood next month.. maybe attending a quaker meeting again if i get a chance to. some weekends i'm working, including this one. part of the job. as time goes on i'll get out of town more and see other places around, go walking in the countryside and along the coast, do all that.
