An Observation

While making jewelry for my upcoming Mycenaean reshoot and Minoan initial photoshoot, I started to wonder about Aegean lords, ladies, and their jewels.  Did they try to match their jewelry to their outfits as we do, or was it more important that they wore expensive gold, silver, semiprecious stones, etc.?

It's very easy to forget that the Minoans and Mycenaeans didn't have access to mass produced clothing or accessories.  If I had to give a scholarly guess, I'd say it probably wasn't important whether a ring or necklace, etc. matched an outfit as long as the ensemble was a conspicuous display of wealth and/or status, but as a writer I can't help but imagine an Aegean lady rummaging through her jewel casket and fretting because she had nothing to go with her new blue dress.
