This time last week I had just got back from walking the Mendip Way

I got the train to Weston-super-Mare on Saturday the 26th of September, started the walk on the Sunday, arriving at the end in Frome on Saturday the 3rd of October, and then got the train home last Sunday. At the start of the week before the holiday, it looked as if there was a non-zero chance that England might about to go back into deepest ( Read more... )

I still can't quite believe that you covered all that distance in half a dozen or so miles a day - it seems so much further! Clear evidence that although I will drive across continents and think nothing of driving for a few hours to go and look at something, I have no idea of more realistic local distances. I really need to change that - and really now would be a good time, when we're stuck with local, wouldn't it... Hmmn!

I saw your post the other day and thought it looked fab, but delayed commenting because I knew I wanted to look at all your photos first - and they really were worth looking at (although they make the distance seem even longer, somehow!) I love seeing the area that I've got so used to through someone else's eyes, and how beautiful it is, and all the other angles and perspectives on it. I've not properly been to Cheddar itself for ages, but I do drive through reasonably regularly on my way to other places, and so it's the non-touristy bit that I always see, and forget about the other bit! I should go and explore for a day - I've been there years ago as a tourist - and remind myself.

You make it all sound very wonderful anyway, even the days with the rain! And of course it was lovely to see you that Friday, and be cosy and chat and look out at all the wet from inside (and I say that as someone who hadn't braved it for a couple of days walking! *g*)

I agree that it didn't feel like a huge amount of walking in order to cover a distance that looks pretty impressive when surveyed from Glastonbury Tor. I'm really glad you enjoyed the photos, and felt I'd done the area justice. I'm really looking forward to my next visit.

The last episode of detectorists was wonderful, BTW. Utterly satisfying.
