I finished knitting the sweater that I started in mid-July

I mentioned it in the post about Selina, my local tunnel boring machine. By the way, I noticed about 2 weeks ago that Selina had been moved inside the large building, and last Monday when I was walking by on the other side of the river I couldn't see her inside the building (that turquoise is easy to spot), and the Tideway website confirms that she is now in place more than 60 m below ground.

I finished the back before I went to Edinburgh and then immediately blocked it to be sure I was getting the right dimensions. In the lighter weight yarn that I was using, I could see from the back that the cables were less dominant than in the chunky yarn for which the sweater had been designed (see photo of back), and I decided to try to make them more dominant on the front by having two ribs between the cables instead of one. I think that was the right decision.

I knew I was going to have to make the sleeves shorter than in the pattern as patterns always have sleeves that are too long for me, but I wasn't sure where I would need to be measuring from, so I also blocked the front as soon as it was finished, and then sewed the two together so I could put the tunic on and measure properly. [I used a smooth high-contrast yarn that would be easy to remove.] It took me a bit over a week to do both sleeves (the bank holiday last weekend helped), and then I sewed the right shoulder seams together and started on the collar - messing that start up three times. I finished the collar around 9 am yesterday, I finished sewing it all together around 2 pm - so was finally able to put it on and see if it really fit, and it did! - and then weaving in all the ends took another 2 hours.

I am thrilled with it. It really suits me and if I had better selfie skills (or any at all), I would be posting a picture of it in action. I am very pleased with myself for successfully making all the calculations and adjustments required for the difference in yarn weight. I am a proper knitter!
