I've been to Cub camp! Which is why I have been so non-existent on here since last Sunday, though most of you knew that I think. :-)
I was really nervous beforehand as I didn't really know what to expect. But I loved it! I was mostly one of the catering team and I have never cooked so much for so many people and for such a large portion of each day before - by the time we had washed up the breakfast things it was time to start lunch, and then the same again in the afternoon for tea! We fed people in shifts - the cubs first, and then whatever the scouts needed (it was a joint camp and the scouts were mostly cooking for themselves but we still had to do some bits), and then the leaders. So we were cooking for two sittings and occasionally three.

Bother, I hit something and it posted before I was ready - that's the second time that's happened recently! I shall continue in this edit!
Highlights of the last few days:
- I slept in a proper canvas ridge tent for the first time since my last guide camp in about 1986! It was wonderful and I slept like a log every night.
- Although L1 and L2 were both at the camp as Cubs, I had very little to do with them, so despite working very hard all the time and rarely sitting down, I still felt as though it was a holiday. L3 is down south with Tim, visiting his parents, so I have had a break from all the children to a certain extent!
- I have got to know a couple of the female leaders a lot better as I was sharing a tent with them. They are lovely and I really enjoyed spending time with them.
- I took a small group of cubs round the orienteering course at the site last night. This involved crossing a very narrow and very scary bridge over a stream, with a handrail on only one side of it - it was less than a foot wide. I hate bridges and I was terrified but I did it and I am very proud of myself. Particularly as we had to cross back as well so I did it twice!
- We went to Cariba Creek, the water park bit of Alton Towers, yesterday. That was great fun but the day was a bit spoiled for me by a stinker of a migraine, and I have run out of magic rizatrpitan wafers due to a spectacular lack of organisation on my part. Must phone the chemist tomorrow and get some more ordered. Got back off the bus and staggered off to the tent for an hour's kip. Woke up feeling as good as new, but sad that the majority of the day had been spent feeling so rubbish.
- I've got to know some of the Cubs a bit better too and they are a lot less scary now!
Going to camp has whetted my appetite for Scouting and I would dearly love to get more involved. I think I have to bide my time till L3 is a bit older though because she is still pretty demanding and I can't be out another evening in the week really. We are already working our main babysitter to the limit! ;-) Maybe when L3 starts Beavers I could go too... we shall see!
Unpacking is begun, and two lots of washing have been done so far. I'm trying not to think about my GCSE Latin result which I can pick up tomorrow morning at about 11 from the school! Eeek?
Camp has done me a lot of good in many ways. I'm really glad I went :-)
