Artsy thoughts

I had a lot of fun dinking I think that's my new favorite word, next to random... around with my old photos from school and the vacation.  Some of them I edited, some of them I made into icons, and a lot of them I'm still fiddling around with.

Of course, that put me in a photo-mood, so I went up, grabbed my camera, and shot a roll and a half of film around the house.  Most of it's more roses and berries, but I also got a lot of Mom and the kids doing school-stuff in the kitchen.  And I started using black and white film again!  Yayness!  It's not the same kind as I used at LVA (note to self:  talk to Miss Anderson and find out - and see if she'll let you use the dark room!), but it's still black and white!  Now to figure out how to get the pictures developed at a larger size...

In addition to photos, I've been doing some more pencil sketches.  Well, I suppose they're not really sketches...I've got a couple more outfits I'm going to try to put to paper, though the designs are a little iffy in my head right now, and I haven't gotten to the point where I can do details like decent jewelry or embroidery, which is very not cool as both of the designs I'm tinkering with are very nice and fancy and floaty - another thing I need to work on.  I also spent about an hour or so in front of the mirror staring at my nose and lips (yes, I'm odd), and finally figured out how to (sort of) draw them realistically, or at least not like the person's being haughty or pursing her lips.

Which brings me to another epiphany.  Though I don't think it really counts if I've been thinking about it for a while, does it?  Anyway.  Portraits/people are my favorite things to draw, because I like to think I'm good at them.  Unlike landscapes or backgrounds...yech  But at the same time, they're my most frustrating because for all that they're good, they're not realistic - as in, they could be real people.  They're a world away quality-wise from what I was churning out quite proudly when I was seven, but they're still not as good as, say, FalconFan from the Jedi Council Forums, whose work I've admired for a couple years now.  I mean, just look at what s/he churns out!  I know, I know - time and effort.  It pays off - I see it in my work now, but sometimes I really don't want to wait that long!

On that note, I've decided that I'll be taking an indefinite hiatus from writing for a while, and just focus on my world-building and art.  I'm going to finish What Once Was Lost, but it's going to be a great deal shorter than I'd originally planned.  If I continue writing anything after that, it's probably going to be The Sabyr Logs, oddly enough.  I don't know why I seem to have such a relatively easy time writing that one, but it's the one I like the most right now, and the only one of my original stories that I can see myself potentially finishing (ironic, considering all the years and effort I've spent on my Orvaen book...).
