I love that book, although its still on my shelf half read because up until the beginning of this year I was basically incapable of reading extended works of non-fiction. I should get back to it. It brings science to a level that is easily understandable to people who don't usually show an interest in the area, which is impressive.
i love bill bryson. i need to read more of his stuff, like a walk in the woods, which is about minnesota, which is practically my backyard. he's from des moines, which is about two hours from here, where i'm from, so i like to think of him as a hometown guy:) have you read notes from a small island? i just went nuts that he wrote a bunch about morecombe (which i've forgotten how to spell), because i was in lancaster, you know, so saw movies and things in morecombe.
like a dog returning to eat its own vomit:) that's what your going back to your old lj made me think of. at least, the way you described it. funny.
yeah, i really loved that book. it had a lot of moment that gave me perspective and made me think. i grew up hearing about this stuff from my dad (the science teacher), but bryson is just so funny:) yeah, good reading. worth getting.
