oo, good question. let's see... of the ones i watched for the first time this year... i'll do a top 20.
20. bridge on the river kwai (i really liked how complicated the characters were, and how the movie left me thinking) 19. sound and fury (a movie to shift your paradigms) 18. ikiru (made me want to live my life better) 17. hedwig and the angry inch (loved the music, loved hedwig) 16. a man and a woman (i love the look, feel, and realism) 15. rosetta (great character sketch) 14. the odd couple (funny, iconic, and there were parts that surprised me) 13. rabbit-proof fence (very telling of human nature, gripping) 12. pauline et paulette (sweet, real feeling) 11. pieces of april (liked it FAR more than i expected) 10. the magdalene sisters (depressing, but important feeling) 9. europa '51 (again, made me want to be a better person) 8. the fog of war (i learned and felt sad) 7. y tu mama, tambien (i still don't think i get it entirely) 6. ghost world (i could identify--this felt very real) 5. my date with drew (sweet, feel-good, funny) 4. infernal affairs (mind-bending, interesting look at human nature) 3. all the real girls (again, felt very real, identifiable) 2. seven samurai (funny, exciting, sad... one of the best movies EVER) 1. gigantic: a tale of two johns (about they might be giants. i love they might be giants)
