12-year-olds' choice awards

a story i was reminded of after making the post with a survey on saturday:

in jan of 1993, or right around then, i was also asked to choose what i thought were the best of the best from the year before. however, instead of filling in my answers in a magazine, i voted a bit more directly. during supper one night, i was called by the folks at the people's choice awards. i guess twelve is the youngest age for voters they call. anyway, as a twelve-year-old, i wasn't too knowledgable with the whole movies/tv/music scene. scenes. whatever. i only remember bits and pieces of my conversation. it seems to me the phone voting took about 45 minutes, so my supper was cold by the time i finished. i kept asking the guy on the phone what other people had been voting for, because they ask you open-ended questions instead of giving you choices. i hadn't seen many new movies that year, but when he asked what i thought the best movie of 1992 was, i answered my honest opinion. the muppet christmas carol. best actor? kermit the frog. actress? miss piggy.

i watched the award show that year to see if any of my votes were for winning candidates. they weren't:)

[also] shut the frick up! who knew that the guy who played artie on the adventures of pete & pete was from marshalltown, iowa? i know tons of people from that city...

memories, movies
