yeah:) following along with you made me wonder where i was when i was in your position. if that makes sense.... hmm. anyway:) i reread my paper journal (without internet, i was journalling a LOT) and my few lj posts. weird to see what i knew and didn't know then. we were definitely on par language-wise:) except you know way more helpful phrases than i did. i was spoiled from never having to order my own food, for one thing. and i didn't learn to say "i can't speak chinese" or "I don't understand" until like, april. which is pretty weird:) tummy was one of the first words i picked up. duzi. and rabbit, cause it rhymes. tuzi. so i was always wandering around, rubbing my stomach and moaning, "oh! my duzi!"
i was surprised, looking back, at all the traveling i did early on. that was cause of the other teachers. we did something every weekend for a long time. zhengding, which is like an hour or hour and a half outside of town, beijing, then the school took us hiking, then a few of us went hiking on our own, then it was national week vacation and we went back to beijing... and so on.
i'll have to look for the character "he" now that you know it... interesting:)
