whee! 12 days till christmas. i don't know if i'll be able to cram in all the stuff i want to tell my students about christmas in that amount of time, especially the way i have things planned out. i'm teaching them the true meaning of christmas, if you will. so we're starting at the beginning. i've picked 11 really commonly known bible stories, made copies, and put them into groups of 3 or 4 to learn them and teach them to the class. you know, adam and eve, moses, samson and delilah, david and goliath, jonah... and, of course, the birth of jesus in matthew and luke. they've been asking to learn this stuff for months now, anyway. they're super curious about christianity. i'm guessing their former foreign teachers haven't had much to say about it cause being a missionary in china is illegal. i'm even a bit leary about writing this post, but i'm doing it anyway. i figure i'm fine, because knowing some basic bible stories is necessary to understand some underlying assumptions and cultural things about the west, especially america. and they'll come across references and stuff in various things they'll read. i'd feel irresponsible teaching them a class on american culture without mentioning christianity. plus, one of their chinese teachers apparently told them they should really consider reading the whole bible, just to deepen their understanding of western culture.
but anyway. for most of class today, i let them work on putting together skits or whatever on their respective stories. in the rest of the classes this week, i might lecture a little more and give them less time to work in class. there's so much context to try to convey. i dunno.
it's 12:30. i need to stop writing because wendy will be here any minute for our lesson. i might cut the lesson short today, though, as i have a lot of stuff to do for class (more copies to make). hooray for christmas! i can't believe it's almost here already... man alive.
in class,
faith
