Autumn means fungi

We went for another circular walk today. As we set off up into the woods, I said, "I won't bother taking many photos today. People have seen enough pictures of paths through woods."

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

I ended up taking even more photos than usual, so I'll be posting them in several different journal entries. In this post I wanted to show off some of the different types of fungi we saw. I couldn't really stop and take many pictures and I'm sure there were more types than I managed to capture. But here is a quick fungus round up.

Classic bright red with white spots, as favoured by garden gnomes and artists illustrating children's books. (Identified by friends in the comments as amanita muscaria, common name Fly Agaric.)

I do like the flippy out screen on the Canon M50. It makes taking shots like this much easier. I only have to kneel down. In the past I used to lie flat on my stomach to compose the shot.

A brown toadstool.

And these different brown ones were only growing on the wood chips that had been laid down on the path.

I actually thought I may have messed up with the photographs because I'd somehow switched the camera into Auto ISO. I normally leave it on 100 to get the best quality image, but I'm surprised at how well the ones taken in the gloomy wood have turned out. They seem fine on the screen so are perfectly good enough for blog posts. Perhaps I should be prepared to increase the ISO in gloomy places, rather than end up with a slow shutter speed?
