OH WOW. Joel and I just beat Portal (yes, it was a collective effort; that's how we roll...). And it was AMAZING. Seriously. If you are in any way a video game lover, and you have either an XBox 360 or a computer capable of running it (and my $600 laptop runs it just fine), you need to play this game. The puzzles are excellent, the game play is fun and challenging, and the writing is hilarious. Listening to GlaDOS is by turns hysterical and disturbing. And, thanks to the minimal storytelling philosophy of the people behind it, you get an excellent sense of what just went on at the Aperture Labs without them ever explicitly telling you what happened. It was one of the best video games I've ever played, and I've played a lot of video games in my time.

Additionally, you get to hear Jonathan Coulton's excellent "Still Alive" as the credits roll. And it's worth it to watch the credits for the ASCII art.

If you can play it, do it. If you can't, find a friend with a computer that can and shell out the $20 for Portal. You won't be disappointed.

music, wheeeeeeee, gaming
