Oh, no, I didn't mean that him picturing Lexie made the Callie sex okay. To be honest though, I've no problem with the Mark/Callie hookup, because they made it clear that it was purely physical and it was obvious that they both were disappointed afterwards.
Also, to be fair, I was cringing throughout the episode, because I was really afraid of the final M/L scene when Lexie would meet him in the bar for a drink, as planned. Mark wasn't taking no for an answer and it was making me truly wonder how they were going to get together (if at all).
But, I don't know...I know you haven't seen the episode, but she gave him a whole speech about how they're in different places and wants different things (true), but I think Mark established throughout Season 7 (or at least the writers tried to establish...) that all he wants is Lexie, even if that means not getting married and not having kids. So, when he interrupted her speech and just kissed her, just to see if she'd feel anything and she did, well...I don't know. Something happened. It was as if Lexie had spent all of this time trying to convince herself that she and Mark didn't work and in that moment she remembered all of the good things about their relationship. I'm not saying they don't have their issues...they do and they're certainly not gone. But this scene was adorable (I thought) and maybe it's just mostly because Chyler is an incredible actress and her facial expressions just lend a depth to Lexie that makes it impossible for me to ever not love her.
And your icon totally matches the surprised tone of your comment...I love it :)
And that moment/storyline in the series will always be one of my favourites! Cristina concocting 'naught nurse' porn? LEGENDARY! Haha!
(I love this 'oh really?' icon, too!)
I also have no problem with the Callie/Mark hook up! They make so much more sense to me as a couple than C/A or L/M, but I think that is mostly to do with the chemistry between ED and SR than their actual storyline... haha!
I won't comment any more on the actual M/L hook up, because like I said I haven't seen it... BUT I agree with you re. Chyler's acting abilities and the way that she sells the character of 'Lexie'. She really is brilliant (and truly highlights the fact that Eric Dane really isn't sometimes...!).
Ha! I did love that scene! Most of my favorite/funny Grey's moments involve Cristina.
And I'll admit that 80% of my love for M/L stems solely from Chyler and her brilliant faces/performances. She's extremely talented, she really does highlight moments when Eric Dane falls a little flat. It was just the way Lexie responded to Mark (and his otherwise creepy advances) that sold me in this past episode.
So, if you're 'sold' then I'm guessing they've done 'something' to address the glaring incompatibilities between the two characters... you know, the very real issues that broke them up at the beginning of all this (not to mention the hurtful and ridiculously childish hypocrisy that went on during the breakup)...
If they've done that realistically, then I'm impressed because I really couldn't see how those things could be successfully resolved without either going the cop out route of ignoring them completely (which, yeah... that's a functional, long term relationship recipe for disaster right there!) or completely obliterating the fairly consistent (for a change!) character development they'd done with these two as individuals.
As much as I have zero faith in the writers at the moment, if they've managed achieve this without using denial or character assassination, then kudos...!
You're so funny..."I'm guessing they've done 'something' to address the glaring incompatibilities between the two characters...you know, the very rela issues that broke them up...".
Of course they haven't. Ending with the kiss was easy. Gives the time to hope we forget about all these issues. But, if they do glaze over them (I don't honestly see how they can...but this IS Grey's....), well, I'll be ridiculously disappointed.
They only resolutions I can come up with is either Mark is as in love with Lexie as he claims and decides that if that means he may not have kids, get married, etc, then he's okay with that. Or, Lexie's magically ready for all of that (which will seriously nauseate me if they do that to her character...). Of course, there's always the good old, 'let's ignore it and when we get bored with them, we'll break them up AGAIN' routine.
*shrugs* It was a nice moment. I'm not silly enough to expect anything further as far as character development....
Oh, man. Seriously? How disappointing! Especially if they do just continue to ignore the gaping holes in their relationship until they get bored with them...
I mean, I could COMPLETELY buy them getting back together for the sex, etc, IF they hadn't so continuously shoved in our faces that Mark wants marriage and babies and that Lexie is (understandably) no where near ready for that. Those are some pretty freaking serious differences in opinions that are almost integral to a person's happiness and contentment. If they really do just ignore that then... wowsers, what a cop out!
Have you heard rumours about whether they're going to address any of it or are you just living in hope at this stage?
It must suck to some degree for the M/L shippers (maybe you can answer that?) because it's a pretty superficial relationship they seem to be writing, and if they really don't give them a resolution on any of that stuff then I can imagine it would be pretty hard to 'believe' them as a couple...
Also, how much are they pushing the Mark loves Lexie and they missed each other too much to continue staying apart angle that I've heard about? Because, honestly? I may not have seen the most recent episode but I have seen most of the rest of this season and I really can't say that that is the impression I got...
For starters they were rarely in scenes at all together, and irrespective of that, they (the writers) certainly haven't given any indication (imo) that they were pining for each other AT ALL. This hook up actually seems a little left field to me to a degree...
I was actually hoping they'd give Lexie some time as a non-coupled character to 'grow' but, yeah... I guess not (and in fact, I actually found that they were consistently regressing her character in the first part of the season - highlighting the gap between her and the others, having her all passive aggressive and immature, etc). Although the freaking MASSIVE time jumps they seem so keen on this season are making it kinda hard to keep up with that...!
I honestly haven't heart anything further than ED's interview stating that they get back together. I also haven't been really looking for spoilers either.
I would HOPE they'd address the issues between M/L, but yes, that's merely coming from me. I really can't see how they can ignore them...but...I don't trust the writers anymore either.
The season started off with Mark wanting Lexie, then he slept with Derek's sister (in a effort to move on), then Lexie vented about that, and I honestly thought it was done. Then Mark started hitting on her again (i.e. checking her ass out in the bar) and would mention her to Callie, then the whole, "thinking of Lexie during sex" thing happened. The whole episode he made it clear that he wanted her back, but you're right...it disappeared for a while. Lexie, on the other hand hasn't really done anything to indicate wanting him back, aside from getting upset when he slept with Amelia and enjoying the fact that he was checking her out.
I agree, I was hoping they'd give Lexie more time solo (I didn't want her to pair off with Jackson or anyone else...just because I wanted her to be LEXIE for a while) but I guess they got tired of that?
