Lexie doesn't love Alex Karev and Alex is in no condition to love anybody. The truth is scary, but necessary, and somehow, it hurts in a good way.

AND

"Do you want to marry me or get married?" she whispers slowly. The fact she's not sure that Mark wouldn't understand the difference is what terrifies her.

If your fic consisted of nothing but these two notions, it would still be awesome! Because, right there, you've encapsulated all the things that mean A/L and M/L really don't work in any way resembling the conventional...

Alex isn't in a position to love anyone...

Lexie probably isn't either...

And Mark is only in love with an idea...

Brilliant!

Of course, the bonus is that the fic isn't only those two notions!!

Loved it. Thanks!

At this point, I just adore Lexie's character and I (almost) don't care who she ends up with. I still ship Lexie/Mark more than Lexie/Alex, just because I loved their old relationship. But, I don't honestly know if they can ever get that back. I would love it, but I just don't know....

I think Lexie pursuing Alex is a terrible idea right now, though it would be extremely interesting. I also think her marrying Mark is a terrible idea as well. I feel like the show kind of cheapened her relationship with Mark and the fic I read on here is what kept it alive.

I don't know...I'm as torn as Lexie :)

Anyway, glad you enjoyed this! I'm happy you agree with what I truly feel, Alex is not in the best place for love right now, Mark may not truly understand Lexie right now (not that he couldn't), and most of all, I think Lexie is just plain lonely.

Thanks for reading!

I also ship Mark/Lexie more than Alex/Lexie because it will ALWAYS be about Alex/IZZIE for me, and I don't see how Lexie could ever be expected to compete with that, and I don't think she should have to.

HOWEVER... at this point, I just adore Alex's character and I (almost) don't care who he ends up with :)

I feel like the show kind of cheapened her relationship with Mark... I completely agree, I think this is exactly what they did with it. And it's such a shame because I still believe it's one of the few GA relationships that they actually took some deliberate steps to build (A/I and M/D being the only other two, imo).

(not that he couldn't) I actually do disagree with this, but only because I think the shift in perspective it would require for him to understand her is almost beyond what he's capable of (on past evidence in their relationship anyhow). I have convinced that Mark is in love with the idea of Lexie as this good and pure person who is going to 'fix' him and be his 'family' (wife, mother of his children etc), but he's ( ... )

I wholeheartedly agree about Alex. I love him. Alex/Izzie is definitely one of my favorite ships, and you're right, Lexie could never compete with Izzie in Alex's eyes.

Yes, they built M/L up and then ruined it in such a cheap way. I completely see what you're saying about Mark being in love with the idea of her. I still think he could redeem himself though. I do really believe he used to understand her, even when she said things he didn't want to hear (such as not being ready for marriage/a family/etc). I think Mark's still dealing with everything that happened and all he knows is he wants to be with Lexie and he can't understand why she doesn't just want to marry him.

I have hope he'll wake up, I guess? I'd love for the two of them to have a freakin' conversation, like they used to.

Oh, MAN!!! I feel like this has been the theme for the whole of season 7 so far!!! And not just for M/L.

Clearly A/L haven't talked. Clearly Meredith/Lexie HADN'T talked. Owen and Cristina need to TALK so frikken badly it's not even funny. Arizona and Callie are still living in denial land (re. baby drama), M/L haven't talked.

The only person who IS talking, no one seems to be listening to!!! (Meredith). I thought her telling Derek at the end about the genetic testing was a big step forward for her (ie. she didn't drown it in tequila!), but Derek appeared to shove his fingers in his ears all "la la la"...

An actual conversation on this show would be a welcome relief about now!

SO WITH YOU HERE. I feel like Mer's grown the most and no one (hint hint DEREK) is responding to her. She completely opened up to him and the genetic testing was a HUGE moment for her character.

Derek just kind of acted like it didn't matter to him (and maybe it didn't), but it mattered to HER so he should care.

Some McDreamy...

Two people at SOME point must talk. It's inevitable. They're going to run out of ways to evade eventually...(right?)

They're going to run out of ways to evade eventually...(right?) I used to think so, but now I'm not so sure :(

It seems like they're gonna use every plot contrivance in the book to keep the characters from interacting with each other in any way that may be construed as functional.

BUT!!! I can GUARANTEE you they will have inevitable conversations in FIC!

Also, would you mind if I added you as a friend? You don't have to add me back if you don't like (I do sometimes say horrible things about Mark Sloan -- but I nearly always take them back again! Haha), but I'd like to keep up with your fics if that's okay.
