Everybody assumes that he can intuit what everyone else is feeling and ease their burdens. I had never thought about it this way, but it's true... Of course, the people he's closest with (Kara and his father) often lash out at him, when they can't lash out at anybody else, because they know he loves them and he'll get over it eventually. It's human. And Lee is pretty good at attacking back, when he puts his mind to it.
I like that here for a change people aren't dumping their emotional baggage on Lee, but are actively supporting him in dealing with his own baggage instead. And Sam has that knack, too. In many ways, I'm afraid the original characters are a bit one-dimensional, since they barely seem to exist outside of their relationship with Lee, but that's the problem when you write a snapshot-like story...
Keeping it in Lee's POV is a good choice, but I'm just dying to know what went through Bill mind.Well, part two will be told partly in Bill's POV, so we'll know more... (as much as he'll admit to himself, that is

I found this last night just as I was about to go to bed and had to read it (because I get very excited when I see an update to this story), but I wasn't awake enough to post a coherent comment - now I am!
So to start - Lee's a dad! And I'm glad it's a girl, because for some reason I think his issues over being a dad would be *even worse* if he'd had a son - it would be more of a mirror to his problems with Bill. Oh, and naming her Laura is a nice touch.
BTW, where did the ten year old mentioned in the first chapter come from? I'm totally stumped at this point.
You're thinking about everything that might go wrong, because that's what you always do. Of course Lee is. One of the things I particularly love about this story is that you've given Lee his own circle of friends who actually 'get' him, which makes me so happy for him. And yeah, he is so going to be an over-protective father.
Except for the fact that sooner or later, he was going to screw up in some way and that his daughter would end up hating him. Gods, he didn't want

And yeah, he is so going to be an over-protective father. Well, he's so hell bent on avoiding the mistakes his own parents made, I'm afraid it's inevitable. :)
I hope he's not listening to me because that wasn't very reassuring. But very true. It's something I'd be interested in seeing on the show, actually. How would Lee react to being a father? Would he go overboard in trying to show his kids that he loves them, that he'll be there for them, that he's proud of them? Or would he unconsciously end up doing the same thing Adama did? Considering how repressed he can be, he could go either way.

Personally I think he'd stress and over-think it to death, but probably end up going overboard to make it clear to his kids that he loves and is proud of them, because he suffered so much from feeling unloved and inadequate (between distant but demanding dad and emotionally abusive mood-swing mother). He is repressed, but usually because he's afraid of being hurt, and I don't think he'd be as wary with his own kids

which is why I can never quite buy Lee & Kara baby-fic, because IMO their combined parental issues would make them an utter disaster as parents! Oh, yes... Can you imagine that? (But then, it can't help that baby fics tend to be a little... delicate to pull off).
And I agree, I think Lee would overcompensate in some way, and focus really hard on being affectionate. Poor woobie. Now, I want to give him a hug too...

There, there. Sure, it gets better. Eventually. (Of course, at this point, there's nowhere to go but up).
