Lovely.
Simply lovely.
Sometimes I wish Oliver really did blow out his brains so we'd get some PDP! from the REAL Kandy - Unlike Season 3 on SoapNet, where we're about to get Johhny SPLAT and barely an acknowledgment from the 'rents because VD was upon them.

Ah, yes, the splat! Heee. Still a cheerful memory, that one. Yay!

Thanks, Sandy!

This was so good, I loved the Sandy/Ryan bonding moments. I am a huge fan of those two together in stories.
The whole social services system was so poorly done in canon. You'd think after the whole Oliver debacle that they would have come in to speak with the Cohens and Ryan. I thought your part with the social worker was really believable. They should have got you to write for them!

Also, I hope you didn't mind me friending you. Is is okay that I did?

Sure, friend away! ;)

I love Sandy/Ryan as well--I think their relationship was what first drew me to the show.

Glad you liked the part with the social worker. I didn't want to make too big a deal out of her visit, but I also wanted to see some kind of reaction from the authorities...

Thanks, philippa!

I'm very excited to see this, especially with the ocitagain timing. Unfortunately, it just started storming like the gods are killing one another with lightning bolts.

I know from experience to step away-NOW! Be back to comment!

Well, as I said, I try to stick with the reviewing (if only because it makes the editing easier when you've just re-watched the ep the AU is based on).

Eeeek, lightning is bad (says the girl who once lost a TV to a storm). Keep safe from them!

Rewatching this arc has pointed out so many gaping holes and amazing missed opportunities. It makes me surprised that more hasn't been written about the trust and communication issues, the obvious outsider and polarized status Ryan had, Sandy's doubts that were voiced (thankfully)only to Kirsten and not overtly to Ryan- although I think Ryan was very aware Sandy was questioning his judgement and wisdom in terms of Ryan. That had to shatter him ( ... )

Yes, some things just got worse in hindsight...

I think Sandy saw the situation as a chance for Ryan to help Oliver; none of the adults had any kind of connection to him and Marissa was obviously not going to be able to say much. That being said, I was struck, when I rewatched, by the fact that Ryan stood alone, all the adults slightly removed from him. Weird.

Try not to drown!

This was beautiful. Like you said, it's been done before, but you found a unique voice for this AU.
He bolts to his feet and rushes to the bathroom, barely noticing that Sandy is following him, and throws up for a long time, his stomach contracting every time he closes his eyes and remembers the red and white.

Sandy stays with him, hands him a glass of water when he's done, brushes his hair back from his sweaty forehead, and says, "So, no more Italian for a while, then?"

Ryan surprises himself by laughing shakily, briefly.
A very sweet moment.

Thanks! I'm glad you picked that part, because I just had this image stuck in my mind, and it's the reason why I wrote the fic! :p
