I've already read a column in which the journalist wondered what people were so afraid of because at least "Trump will only do damage in America, while Clinton would have involved herself a lot more heavily in international matters."
Seriously?
That's forgetting that the last large-scale economic crisis came when a bubble created in the US collapsed in the US.
That's forgetting that far-right parties are getting increasingly louder in Europe, and that Trump gives them a wonderful opportunity to tell people that their ideas, their racism, their bigotry and their laziness is perfectly okay ("Don't think too hard, don't change you life style, just vote for me and go back to bed, I'll fix everything for you.")
That's forgetting that the US is one of the biggest polluter on the planet on which we all live. I don't think the situation will have gotten better after 4 years of Trump presidency.
As a side note, voting in compulsory in Belgium. There's talk of ending that and making voting voluntary (because the right is in power right now, and they know that compulsory voting is good for left parties).
