George R. R. Martin A Feast For Crows & A Dance With Dragons
I loved all five books of the series (and here's to hoping it won't take him too long to get the sixth one out), but I burned myself out a little reading three of them without a break. It's not that they're without humor, it's just that the situation doesn't get any better for anyone, ever, and after a few thousand pages, I started longing for something more optimistic/light-hearted. Like, say, Stephen's King Dark Tower series...

Elizabeth Peters The Mummy Case

Richard Bachman (Stephen King) Chantier (Roadwork)

Diana Wynne Jones Charmed Life, The Lives of Christopher Chant, Conrad's Fate, Witch Week, The Magicians of Caprona, Mixed Magics & The Pinhoe Egg
These were pitched to me as "better than Harry Potter" but it took me a while to get hooked. But the more I read, the better I got to know the character, and the more I got sucked into the universe. By the time I was reaching the end of the series, I wanted it to go on forever--I may actually re-read the series again very soon, just so I can spend a little more time with them all.

Bought: September 2011.

Melissa Scott & Amy Griswold Stargate Atlantis: Allegiance
Like the previous books in the Legacy series, I really enjoyed the character moments, and the relationship between members of the team. The writing was a little less good than in the previous two books, but still readable--certainly not the worst SGA tie-in I've read so far.
Bought (Kindle): November 2011.
