Terry Pratchett Le peuple du tapis (The Carpet People)
Gift: December 2009

Neil Gaiman Neverwhere (Neverwhere)
Bought: April 2007

Terry Jones & Douglas Adams Starship Titanic (Starship Titanic)
Bought: January 2011

Olivia Woods Star Trek Deep Space Nine : Fearful Symmetry
Gift: February 2010

Sally Malcolm Stargate Atlantis: The Rising
Since I'm re-watching the show, I thought I might as well re-read the books while I was at it.

Of course, novelizations of episodes are never that great; either nothing happens in the episode, so the book feels empty, or so much happens in the episode that the book feels rushed and spends no time exploring the characters' motivations or feelings.

As novelizations go, The Rising wasn't the worst I've ever read, but it's not a wonderful book either.

It just gets the job done.
Bought: June 2006

Martha Wells Stargate Atlantis: Reliquary
Bought: June 2006

David Lodge Nouvelles du paradis (Paradise News)
I actually enjoyed this one, probably because the characters were more sympathetic and the tone of the story less cynical than in his other books. (Unsurprisingly, other people reviewing the book on Amazon have complained that the book is less good than the previous ones, precisely because of the things I liked).
Bought: February 2009

René-Victor Pilhes L'imprécateur
This one wasn't really my kind of thing, but it wasn't uninteresting; weird (and a bit depressing) how a book written in the 70's about corporate firms can still be applicable to today's world.
Gift: February 2008

David Lodge Jeux de maux (How Far Can You Go?)
Bought: April 2009

Khaled Hosseini Mille soleils splendides (A Thousand Splendid Suns)
Bought: January 2010

David Lodge Hors de l'abri (Out of the Shelter)
I found this one interesting--not so much the initiation aspect of the book, which we've seen before in countless other books, but the time period made it different (when I read about WWII, I rarely come across accounts of the years following the war, and what it was like for people in Europe).
Bought: July 2009

Don De Lillo Americana (Americana)
I actually didn't finish this one.

I was just too bored, and life is too short.

It kind of reminded me of Bret Easton Ellis novels; all flash and no substance.

The characters are unlikeable, there was no plot, the descriptions went on and on and on and didn't serve any purpose.

I just hated it.

Very much.
Gift: February 2008

David Sedaris Je suis très à cheval sur les principes (When You Are Engulfed in Flames)
Bought: July 2010

Jonathan Franzen La zone d'inconfort (The Discomfort Zone)
Gift: February 2010

Mark Haddon Le bizarre incident du chien pendant la nuit (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time)
Bought: September 2008

Nick Hornby Une éducation (Scénario) (An Education)
Bought: March 2010
