#1 : Random question: what does it say about me that my favorite superhero movies (Iron Man and Christopher Nolan's Batman) are about mostly ordinary guys who use armors and technology to improve their strength and combat abilities? Guys who weren't bitten by a spider or exposed to radiation and don't have superpowers?
For all their differences in tone, and in the personalities of their protagonists, both movies manage to tackle relatively similar themes (the genese of the superhero and a betrayal in the first, and the way they both create their own worst enemies in the second.)
#2: Random PSA: a couple of years ago, I watched Batman Begins, and promptly developped a slight crush on Christian Bale (I still find him very hot, by the way and for the record. Scary as hell, though. Usually, when I like an actor, I wouldn't mind meeting him. Ben McKenzie, Rob Lowe or Jamie Bamber all seem like guys who'd be fun to talk to for a couple of minutes. But Christian Bale? He's just too intimidating.)
As a result of this crush, I ended up watching a lot of the movies he's been in (and making some discoveries I wouldn't have made otherwise, like Equilibrium and Velvet Goldmine, which is always nice).
Recently, I've re-watched Iron Man.
And started developping a slight crush on Robert Downey Jr.
Sigh.
Since he's played in a lot of movies, I won't be watching everything he's been in, but I'm probably going to disappear for a few weeks, while I take a look at some of the more... interesting stuff he's made. (I refuse to watch The Shaggy Dog, though. At some point, a gal has got to draw a line. I won't watch Danger Zone either, because when an actor is asked why he took the job and replies, "Five hundred grand for two weeks", you know you should run. Fast.)
#3: Random observation: I'll take this opportunity to thank a few deities; at least, Christian Bale and RDJ played in mostly good movies. I've had to sit through a lot, and I mean a lot of crap for the sake of Rob Lowe, and I'm not sure I'd do it again for anyone (if you've seen such gems as Jane Doe, Tommy Boy and Hostile Intent, you'll see what I mean).
I've always wondered about that, too; he showed in The West Wing that he could be a good actor if he was given good material. How come he always ends up getting stuck in bad movies? Does he really have bad taste, or doesn't he have a choice?)
