Stargate (be it SG-1 or SGA) has always mostly been about pretty people blowing up bad aliens spaceships--which is perfectly fine in my book. I like both series because of the nice special effects and the relationships between the characters.
And sometimes, the episodes are like a fanfic, and I love that too.
Take The Last Man.
John angsting over Teyla's disappearance, and going back to Atlantis, only to find himself... well, on Atlantis.
A slightly... different Atlantis.
You think they have bad days on BSG?
Imagine having a hologram of your best friend tell you that you've been transported 48,000 years into the future, that you need to go back to the past to change said future because it sucked and everyone died horribly, and oh yes, to do so, you're going to have to spend a few centuries in a stasis pod before you can be sent back, but don't worry, hopefully, you'll wake up before the sun turns nova on you and fries you to death.
Niiiiice.
And I really love hologram!Rodney telling John how everyone died--
Teyla--probably the worst death for her; having her child taken from her, and being murdered once she wasn't useful to Michael anymore. And her death being the starting point to the fall of the Pegasus Galaxy, on top of that.
Sam, taking down three hive ships "with her last breath."
Ronon, fighting and dying alongside a Wraith.
Rodney and Jennifer giving up Atlantis, getting married, only for Jennifer to die--and then, Rodney spending the rest of his life trying to undo what was done.
General Lorne!!!!
No wonder John is happy when he goes back to his own time...
... and is very adamant they find Teyla. Now.
Although it ain't going to be so easy...
Oops.
