season 7

Only two discs left in my S7 box set. While I like it better than I did when I first watched it, I still have two major issues with it.

1. I don't like the potentials (and the way they keep forcing Kennedy down my throat isn't helping). The storyline was a good idea, but I'm not convinced by the way they're selling it; my main problem is that it's always the same four or five potentials we see; the others are all just faceless characters in the background. I understand that with the time constraints, they didn't have time to develop all these secondary characters, but sadly, it leaves me with a house full of characters I don't care about.

2. Mostly, though, I think this season has the same flaw the fourth season of Angel did; the characters keep talking, and talking, and talking some more, about the big bad evil that's headed their way, and repeating the same things over and over and over and over again. "Something bad is coming." "We're all going to die." "The First is sooooo bad."

And in the end, nothing much happens between the beginning of the season and the final battle.

Sure, The First rears its ugly head here and there, tells them they're going to die, tries to make them doubt themselves and each others. But seriously, where's the mayhem? Where's the destruction? So far, it's been more of an annoyance than a real danger for anyone...

Maybe it wouldn't matter so much if, like in earlier season, they also had a "villain of the week" to deal with; but in S7, it's pretty much just The First.

And then, I find the dialog a bit tiresome after a while. Every other line, poor SMG has to say either "death," "power" or "slayer" (yes, yes, we get it already, season 7 is about power.) A

There are some things I like, though; Spike talking to the First, in the guise of the previous 6 seasons villains, was awesome. So was the episode where Dawn thinks she's a potential. I think Faith should arrive any time soon, as well the very creepy priest played by Nathan Fillion. I know I loved the finale back then, and I'm sure I will again. That's something...
