some things that might just cheer you up

I spent most of my free time this week re-reading old SGA and BSG fics. Since I know that there are some new addicts to BSG on my F-list, here's some recc'ing.

SGA first...

ltlj's Retrograde universe is probably the most famous AU fic in the SGA fandom. It's been recc'ed by countless people before me, and with good reason. If you haven't read it yet, SG1 comes to Atlantis three years after the expedition left Earth, and finds the Atlanteans in a difficult position. I love this universe, and these characters, more than words could say...

Love the writing, love the characterization, love the plotting... just love everything about it.

And, from friendshipper, a nice vid in which Joe Flanigan talks about his relationship with his hair. I laughed so hard, tears were running down my face.

Now, on to BSG...

roadrunnerdm's Breaking Point is probably one of the first fics I read in the fandom (and we all know how important first contact can be). I can only recommend it warmly.

widget285's Nine Lives is a realistic, bittersweet look at what could happen in the aftermath of the S3 finale. There be much cuteness in this one.

suffolkgirl's Promises is a wonderfully dark and angsty look at what could have happen after the S2 finale. I found this Lee both chilling and heartbreaking, and I think the story does justice to his relationship with Kara (but then, suffolkgirl is very good at that).

Loch Ness's Avenging Athenia is a Lee-centric story, taking place a good while after the Pegasus story-arc in S2. I just love the two original characters, the setting, the mood of this fic, as well as Lee's backstory. The author is very good at fleshing out the characters with small details (like, for example, how they take their coffee).

Loch Ness's Thousand-Yard Stare and Cold Hands. Two stories following from the events in Resurrection Ship; again, I just love her portrayal of Lee at this point in the show.

And, finally, Loch Ness's Killing with Kindness. Don't read anything into the fact that I saved it for last; it's probably the best fic in the BSG fandom--an AU that begins at the end of S2, in which "The Cylons love them now. Gods help them all." It's well-plotted, it's complicated and raw and it feels real in every way. It's honest and true to the characters and to the show, and I'll just stop raving now and let you go read it...

Just another quick link before I leave you in peace, though. BSG Convention. Some of the best pics of Jamie Bamber ever...
Gosh, that man is gorgeous...
