Winter Break: Ecuador, Atwood, HP, oh my!

Dec 30, 2008 01:34

Try as I might, I can not sleep. So instead, I thought I'd update. Wow, so winter break feels like it has just slipped past at full speed. It seems like I've barely been home, and now I'll be leaving in four or so days! *eep* I spent the entire semester looking forward to studying abroad and now I'm just kinda nervous. Actually really nervous. Because really, I don't know Spanish and I'm not ready to try navigating my way around Quito. So...we shall see. But I'm really kinda wishing I took Spanish last semester. Not that I really could have (and maintained my sanity that is, which I barely managed to keep anyway...) Anywho, mini rant over. I'm terrified but also really, really excited. It hasn't really sunk in yet though. So yeah... So Christmas break! Has been wonderful and hectic and relaxing and fabulous. I've been to Disneyland and the beach, and LA (rushing to the Ecuadorian Consulate, trying to speak spanish and get my student visa). I've had a lot of fun late nights with Amy and have played a lot of games and watched too many episodes of House, Pushing Daisies and Dr. Who. I got my yellow fever shot (ouch, my arm still hurts and is still red) taken typhoid pills, dealt with malaria pill drama and tried (with no luck yet!) to find a decent swimming suit. I celebrated a most wonderful Christmas with the family and got fun books (yay East of Eden and Atwood and so on) and fun earrings and fun socks and fun cheshire cat stuff, etc. etc. And I got the most fantastic HP box EVER from keeper_of_stars. It's hand covered with excerpts and chapter art from the Sorcerer's Stone and it is so wonderful and nostalgic and I couldn't love it more. There's even glitter on it. It's so SO perfect. And I got some fab bracelets (love love LOVE) and a beautiful glass and other goodies. And then yesterday I got (I'm still super giddy about this) a signed copy of Atwood's Oryx and Crake!!! A signed copy to ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Al and Kat got to see her a bit ago and they lied to me and said she wasn't signing books but she WAS and they got me my favoritist book ever by her and it's signed to me! And...they went through quite a bit to get it for me. And I keep walking around the house with it and peaking at the page she signed on. And now I really just wanna read it for...uh...the fourth time? But really....a signed Margaret Atwood book to me!!!! And the most perfect HP box!!!!!!! Really I should just put the book in the box and carry them around with me....all of the time. Totally the best Christmas presents.
