Since I'm too lazy to write a full con-report for Sakuracon right now (or possibly ever), I'm just going to recount some of the highlights (and lowlights) of the experience:
1. Stress- as in, costumes half-finished, up all night in your hotel room hunched over a sewing machine kind of stress.
2. BEST IN SHOW. And, Best Skit, Novice Category. I'm not really a humble person, so I'm not going to try to be- our skit rocked, our costumes were awesome, and we had a great time performing this. For those who don't know, our skit was called Revolutionary Private Eye, Utena (written by yours truly with comedic assistance from Teal and Rose) and we cosplayed as Utena (me), Yuuko from XXX-holic/Tsubasa (Teal) and Sakura from Tsubasa (Rose), plus an extra as Shinigami(?) from Bleach (John).
3. Fanboys = Creepy- So our roommate did, in fact, turn out to be a weirdo. Granted, I think underneath all the girl-crazy desperateness he was probably a decent person, but so help me God I'm NEVER sharing a bed with a strange guy again. This is probably the only time I can ever say this, but I'm too nice for my own good.
4. Introducing the Shoujo Mafia- for some inexplicable reason, known only to Rose, we've been making mafia-related cosplay jokes for ages now, which ended up transforming into our group's "theme", and thus the Shoujo Mafia was born. I'll be working on a website for our group, which should be up within the next month or two (hopefully...).
And that about sums up Sakuracon '06. Our next con will be Kumoricon, in Portland, which takes place during Labor Day weekend in August.
I'm going back to California again this Friday and I'll be gone until Wednesday of next week. My grandma passed away and we have to go down there for her funeral. Needless to say, it's probably not going to be a very pleasant trip; mostly I'm just grateful that we made it down there last month to see her, rather than waiting like we'd originally planned.
So that's it for now, more news/rants/whatever later on.
