I am finished with my coursework as of yesterday. My German class students and I threw our teacher a party last night and I had a great time. Now I have less than a week before I am in China and less than month before I am in Germany.
I got accepted on an internship with Aldi in Mulheim an der Ruhr for 7 months getting paid the maximum amount a month that anyone in Germany offers in the way of paid internships. With cost of living taken care of 750 Euro a month will cover travel, beer and whatever other costs there may be. So all of my hard work is paying off and I am now able to do what I’ve wanted to do for some time now.
Now I am at a turning point in my life. My college career is almost behind me, I am traveling and I will afterwards move to Vermont to start a new pursuit towards yet another set of goals. At the risk of sounding boastful I have accomplished all of my goals thus so far due in part to hard work, luck and me.
Now I think about moving, packing and leaving. What will I leave behind? I came to Jonesboro with the intent of not making many friends or being too social so that doing what I need to do in terms of schoolwork and moving would not be so hard. I have made a few good friends here and that is how I like it even though I stayed a year longer than I had originally planned. It seems like I have lost some good friends too though. My misplaced well intentions fucked me over on one who I thought was a friend and apparently my efforts to visit some were never returned. I guess that is life and I wish them the best…maybe later on in life we can reconnect and rekindle our friendships when we have the time and are wiser.
Now I have to pack for my move from Jonesboro and pack for my trips.
My plan to workout this semester fell flat on its face but somehow I think walking around Europe for 7 months and China will make up for that as long as I don’t drink too much beer in Germany. :P
I just got back from town to buy a Journal but one that has everything I want costs $49 damn dollars and I can’t quite justify such an expense even if it is required for my internship with my level of disposable income. So I went to go think at Shorty Smalls while I ate there. I cannot for the life of me figure out what Shorty Small’s target segment is for it is not a fastfood joint, a Chilli’s and you have to pick your food up when the Chilli’s type pager rings you but when you are done you just leave your food on the table. Also there are no TVs, the condiments are strangely placed along with the self-serve soda fountain to where no matter where you sit it is bothersome to get to. I do not image high-customers liking the place, low-end customers would probably just eat at McDonald’s or somewhere similar for the little less quality and better prices where their kids could go play. I don’t get it. But after I was done I went back to Barnes and Noble and looked at travel guides for Germany that are priced anywhere from $49 to $23 and none had Duisburg in them. So I just settled on Lonely Planet’s 5th edition which has many cool places, trips, roads and breweries lined up and outlined.
My last final for this semester, for my fourth degree, for my last coursework and my last final here in Arkansas my name was the answer to a question:
I think it is nice that my teacher mentioned me on the Final as the Right Answer, lol, since I absolutely detested Peter Singer and took every notion against him in class discussions.
So this week I am about done reading Freakonomics and have The Pity of War lined up after it. So far in the past five days out of school I have read three books and am half way through Freakonomics. If anyone wants to further my reading please check out my wishlist:
