SORRY FOR THE SPAM GUYS

Apparently my old hotmail account (pooh123bear) is sending people spam as me. Or something.

Not sure if anyone knows how to make it stop? I am not overly techy. I haven't logged into that hotmail account in 4 years, its only used for MSN---which is rare.

You can't, unfortunately. If random people are saying you're spamming them, then they're just forging you as the "from" address, which for email is as easy as writing a different return address on an envelope for regular mail, unfortunately.

If it's sending stuff to people on your contact list, then you might want to double-check with the virus scans on said computer you're using to access this account, just to be sure. Or change the password. Or both.

I should follow up - friends getting it can be from other things besides viruses, I guess I just get suspicious when it happens. I've seen it before where alarming amounts of similar names were sent to people in the same group of friends and nobody ever found a virus to explain it, so who knows, maybe there's a few really clever spammers out there.

a long time ago my aol email was hacked and used to send out spam. I'm pretty sure I had to delete it, but i was a youngin' at the time, so I can't remember what all else it entailed.
