Listening to Hendrix in my head as I write this bit of truth down. It concerns the response time of my unit, the 920th Rescue wing and what they have been doing helping out with NO and Old Miss. Here goes:
When it was determined that Katrina would hit NO/Old Miss area, Rescue was ready to go. The equipment was loaded up, personnel were recalled, all the paper work was done and they waited for the word to go, go, go! They were pumped and ready to go in to help save lives, but it took FEMA 36Hours after impact to deploy them. 36 hours before they could ship out on the planes with the helicopters stored on board. 36 hours since the hurricane struck.
When the word was given, off they flew and a few hours later they were in place to begin operations. On the first day, one Jolly Green saved over 113 lives in an 8 hour time. They flew round the clock missions, day and night, with a total save number at over 1,100 in two days. Think the final number was 1,450+ or so. There were some complications, mainly that the HH60 Helicopters are designed for combat rescue and not civilian rescue. HH60 can hold 12 to 15 people, there were 7 deployed to help. Crew consists of Pilot, CoPilot, Flight Engineer, PJ and 2 Door Gunners. That makes 6 slots taken with 9 left to fill. They worked their asses off.
People took notice of how limited the HH60 is with civilian rescue and now, the word has been spoken: The Rescue section is gonna get new Helicopters to play with on future missions. It looks like Sikorsky will get the contract. The new helo will be able to hold 39+ people.
Hoo-ray!
That was just one rescue wing doing what it does best: Saving Lives and they responded with in 40 hours. FEMA screwed up big time and should be spanked hard along with some other fu, er, folks.
The 920th will be in theater for another few weeks to help with further ops.
As far as my situation goes, I have till Oct 1 to resolve it. At that time, it will be out of my hands and in someone else's grubby paws.
From what I was told, I am on thin ground, but not ice. It is looking good that they will retain me and give me back my clearance.
I did not body board at all this last weekend. Instead, I hanged out with the peeps from my shop and had fun with them. It is a great place to work, but man is it boring as all get out. Wooo...tedious, sleep inducing, manual labor with nothing too exciting going on.
Boring.
I wish you all a wonderful day and splendid night. For those of you who will be having sex tonight, pound a couple of minutes longer for me. Thanks!
