My affair with the Sistine Chapel Ceiling..

dun dun dun.. I feel like there should be that tense music in the background and everyone should be stunned. I told orangerfulthat I would talk about my affair with the Sistine Chapel Ceiling and what went wrong (that would be a great book title).

I went to college and got a degree in Art History, I was young and naive. I had to write a senior thesis. (If only I could insert a clever definition of thesis ala "Amelia Rules") I spent a semester in Italy and I learned everything that I could about Michelangelo (the man designed the stairs in the house I lived in I thought it was fate) and thought I was going to be an art restoration expert living there, in a villa and drinking wine.

I went to see the ceiling every chance I had. I had spent so much time there that I felt it was my personal mission to advocate for the "new and improved" ceiling so I wrote my senior thesis on it, 100 pages of me and the ceiling, a labor of love, that now is a good fly swatter should the need arise. I had to then defend my ideas which consisted of me standing on my soapbox (read: powerpoint).

I didn't go on to live in Italy or to become a restoration expert (maybe later in my life) but I did go on to teach mini Michelangelo's in the making.

And now I just read about it.
