You, madam, are no Buffy.

Warning: I am going to carry on about True Blood.  I will spoil season one a bit. If you don't want to know anything about it, this is your cue to leave.  Also, if you adore Sookie Stackhouse and your heart beats faster at the thought of her, you seriously, seriously don't want to read on.

the rant is behind the cut. )

Bravo. But you left out the part about how watching the opening credits makes us want to pack up the family and move to Louisiana tomorrow! ;)

My main thought (not having watched True Blood) was "Oooh. My mother's budgie was called Sookie. And she could talk! I wonder if this is where she ended up!"

I don't think they're riffing on Buffy so as Alan Ball is imposing whatever he wants on Charlaine Harris' much better novels.

The second season is...hmmm...it says something that Michelle Forbes' evil witch is my favorite character. Because she's the only one with any intelligence whatsoever.

Or, as one of my flist likes to say "..and tune in for next week, when Sookie does something stupid."

This is good to know. I don't know that I can do the novels, as I just can't stand first person, but I"m glad to hear somebody didn't see this character in print and think, "What a good idea."

I enjoy the books, but I must admit that the series has deviated from them a fair bit and I'm not sure whether I really like the series or not. Sookie's a much better character in print than she is on-screen.

I keep hearing this, and it's encouraging. I don't know that I can do the books, though.
I'm much more engaged in the secondary characters than I am Sookie. I don't do FP well in any circumstance, and to go in already disliking her is probably too big of a handicap.

Oh? Is that the vampire sheriff guy? Because he I like.

And yes, I don't think I could take Bella Swann.
