Hello again
I’m writing this email en la noche porque no tengo tiempo a la escuela. It is still Monday, but I’m going to send this email to you tomorrow since we do not have internet connection at our house. We thought that my host family was rich because they had a pool, but she lives in a condo so there is a pool for all the condos, but I have not seen it yet. I can’t remember what I wrote earlier today so sorry if I repeat some stuff. We had quesedillas last night that were good and tonight my host mother went out with a friend so her daughter cooked some frozen tortillas con queso. Both chesses have been white. The cheese tonight was more liquid and creamy than American cheeses. It was ok. We also had salsa verde y salsa rojo to use on it. I liked to put a little salsa verde because sometimes the creaminess got a little too much but it was spicey. Now I do remember writing what I had for breakfast this morning, so far that has been my favorite meal. At school today we had a fiesta and the other host families brought food for it. Some of the food was good and some of it not so much. I’ve decided I really don’t like mole even though I want to, I’ve tried it twice now, once when my friend Michelle cooked it and once here. I picked up a red drink without knowing what it was and it was watermelon juice. It was pretty good. I also got to play a little soccer with some little boys. It was fun! The classes are all in Spanish, although they will say a word or two in English if it is really necessary. It really is frustrating because I used to know all of this stuff, or well most of it. We also had a cooking class today and we learned how to cook sopa de tortilla. It was pretty good but they put crema on top and I don’t think I like that very much. There were too many people there for us to be able to really cook ourselves. I think that my understanding of Spanish has already improved a lot, I just need to get myself to speak it more. I’ll form questions in my head but I need to push myself to ask them. We have lessons in gramatica y conversacion and a cultural class. And on Fridays we have excursions and a lot of Saturdays too. We are in class from 9 to 2:30 and then for three weeks we have our social work class until 4. It is a long day, but the classes seem to by quickly because we have a lot of breaks.
I just remembered that paragraphs would be a good idea. I like my roommate. We were supposed to get a call from the professor from Texas State about going out to watch basketball, and then decide if we wanted to go out with the group, but he never called. I hadn’t quite finished my homework so I was looking up some words so I could figure out what they were asking me to do and then we just started looking up words that we had heard that day or other words that we wanted to know. It was kind of geeky, but we were both happy that we didn’t get a roommate who wanted to go out and party all of the time. One guy apparently already broke his curfew (which is 3am) last night. My roommate is not in the same classes as I am, but there is another nice girl and some weird boys. It rained last night, and there was thunder and lightening, that was nice. It also rained today a little. And the weather is still wonderful. It still gets hot, although Malissa would probably want it hotter, especially because it is cool in the mornings and evenings, we can open the windows to cool off the house. Some other people were also saying that the month of june is their cool month, that the temperature only gets up to 60 degrees, but I’m not sure about that. Well I’m going to go to sleep now.
