What next? A vote to restore racial minorities to non-personhood??!!

Then again, in 1897 the Indiana House of Representatives unanimously passed a measure redefining the area of a circle and the value of pi. There appear to be no limits to what American law feels entitled to decide and impose upon reality.

effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages

How does that work?

Since birth control applies before fertilization, it seems irrelevant.

And if we presume a fetus is a person, then miscarriage is logically the fetus' suicide. The mother cannot be at fault.

Similarly, I wonder if, since a fetus is a person, it is allowed to vote in public elections.

Pregnant women would thus be empowered with a second ballot by proxy, and women tend to vote for Dems...

Maddow did a long segment on this tonight, in response to Mitt Romney's position of support.

She did a little fudging, though, or so it seemed to me, in equating

a) all birth control with

b) hormonal methods that, in a specific case, have failed in their primary task of preventing fertilization but did somehow contribute to the failure of a zygote to become a baby, and thus killed a "person."

As a practical matter, it seems like it'd be awfully hard to demonstrate that that scenario had happened in a trial.

On the other hand, I enjoy seeing Romney look bad for any reason. So...
