Details of AU?
Alphonse Heiderich's world is that of canon Harry Potter, except Voldemort is just starting to rise, so the war and all the events described on the books still have not happened, even in 2008. He comes from the same AU as otouto_al.
There is a curse that runs down his Mother's family line. It makes his health much stronger than it would otherwise be, but every time he does get sick, the curse overrides the natural illness and brings him down instead. When he gets sick, no amount of common medicine can cure him, and sometimes the potions he has to take to cure himself are so complex to make they are nearly considered as Dark Arts. This curse physically exists in an amulet passed down generations that is currently protected inside a telescope he carries around in his pocket. Failure to protect it will kill every person that carries his blood. His aim is to study magic so one day he will be able to do what no one on his family has been able to previously: nulify the curse on the amulet.
His mother is a witch and his father is a muggle physicist; both study astronomy, working together to complement their knowledge and further their research. Alphonse has grown amid sky charts and equations, hearing fascinating stories about Space and the origins of the Universe, so Astronomy fascinates him, and that's what he wishes to study in his life, if his obsession to break the curse on his family doesn't consummate him first. His mother noticed both his passion and obsession at an early age and, when she passed the amulet down to him after he got his Hogwarts Letter (as was the tradition on her family), she trapped it inside his telescope; this way he would never be able to forget his passion as he obsessed over the curse, and the emotional weight the instrument carried would serve to remind him that he also had to live and seek his dreams.
The teddy bear (a stuffed cat) he carries with him also has a strong protection charm on it; when the curse activates, it very often is able to force the illness to keep to a coughing spell or a cold. His mother made it when he was a baby because, even having his health heightened, the curse still activated on him far too often for his parents' comfort. He does not know about it, but he always keeps the cat close to him for comfort and believes the magic contained on it is instead a Calming Charm his mother cast on it when he was a baby.
Alphonse is currently thirteen years old, but he looks about eleven.
