So socktree stopped by last night, looking for some distraction from woes; onyxrising, banditangel and myself were only too happy to oblige. We made her chocolates and watched Family Guy (the 2nd DVD box set will be mine...oh yes...it will be mine...).

I also completed a piece of art I intend to give to my cousin for Christmas, though I'd like to get the sky just right. I spent half an hour in Terragen perfecting the infamous "glow", which is a fun little effect you get when the atmospheric haze is:

1) At JUST the right half-height (a difference of 5 meters can ruin the effect, and that's a small difference in Terragen)

and

2) A brilliant, gaudy color (my default for testing it is lime green, because it's very noticeable)

Essentially, if you fiddle around with the settings you'll produce an eerie glow such as this one (picture not made by me):

In my case, the glow was a bright indigo.

The final landscape turned out very pretty, but I've been trying to make the sky by hand in Universe, which carries with it some problems. See, Universe only lets you make rectangular/square starfields. It's difficult to hand-craft the stars so they look just right. Then, after the starfield is in place, I want a pretty nebula and a couple of large stars.

I'm not sure I've succeeded on the "pretty" part of the nebula yet.

I may start working with better software here if I can't get what I want.
