Not nearly as soon as January 2009. Good morning, soon to be loyal opposition. Unless, of course, this is the most crooked election since 2004, not to mention 2000. Buck up, old chap, y'all hijacked the last eight years, so ...
Except for the fact that every inner city in America would be burned down and looted by tomorrow, I think it would be wonderful if McCain pulled off a Dewey-Beats-Truman moment. Not just from the economic and national security standpoints, but just think of how the insane Obamaheads will react. You totally know at least one or two would jump off a bridge in their Big O t-shirt.

do you think McCain was the wrong guy to head the ticket? as.in "this guy is outta touch with the Republican base / if he'd had his way, he'd chosen Lieberman as running.mate" (i know your thoughts w.r.t. Romney and largely agree).
is it 1976 (sort of) with Palin as Reagan (minus the brown suit) and an uncharacteristically rudderless McCain as, um, Gerald Ford?
at first i thought Palin was an unwise choice, but - really - would, say, Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia changed the dynamic of this election?
we're living in Strange Times, certainly. David Brooks columns read like zen puzzles (or perhaps they always were...)

Having worked on three presidential campaigns, this was by far the worst-run on our end. The coordination and strategy were terrible. The Hillary thing was a golden opportunity wasted, they should have worked it hard to wedge white suburban soccer moms off, etc. Also the voter fraud on the other side is the worst I've ever seen. (in IA, you can mail out absentee ballots to other people; I personally have received six). They should have met the A.C.O.R.N. thing head on.
