Principles of criminal law, yeah. Our worlds may not be the same, but they're fairly similar in that regard, I think.

Yeah. It works most of the time. But sometimes it fails and the bad guys find a way to work around it and use it in their favor. Nothing's perfect though.

Yeah, I've seen my fair share of bad guys walk cause of technicalities... or crooked lawyers.
