- Most if not all of you already know that Kate Beckett has left the City. She and I talked about the possibility of this happening and we agreed that in her absence and barring any objections from you, I will be taking over command of the police force.
- Not all of you know me. My name's Cameron Lynde. In my home world, I'm a U.S. attorney. Yes, a lawyer. No, I didn't make the life of any cops more difficult on purpose unless they were dirty, in which case it was my pleasure.
- The above means that while I have extensive knowledge of procedure and the substantive law of the United States of America and am currently working on a criminal code for the City, I'm not a cop. If I do take over Kate's position as Chief of Police, I will be doing so in a less hands-on fashion than she handled things. I won't be going into the field. You won't see me handling a gun. I will handle paperwork and make decisions just like Kate did, and you will report to me as you reported to her. I'll be more than willing to listen if you think my background as a lawyer means I'm missing something but listening won't guarantee that I will change my mind.
If anyone has a problem with the above, either with (a) my taking over as Chief of Police or specifically with (b) my being a lawyer, please talk to me in person.
- The reverse is, of course, also true: I don't know all of you. I'd like to ask you all to introduce yourself briefly and explain which position you currently hold in the police force.
- If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, or if one of you would like to step up as Chief of Police, let me know.
- Ken, if you have a moment, I'd like to talk to you.

Kate Beckett has left the City. Barring unforeseen circumstances or the emergence of a more suited candidate for the position, I will take over as Chief of Police in her absence. If you have any enquiries about this or the police force in general, I will answer them to the best of my abilities.
