Newt's wish list

Dec 03, 2009 19:34

A number of people, family and friends alike, have been asking what would Newt like for Christmas, so we thought that we would put together a single point wish list to coordinate.

Please note: this is NOT a request for Christmas presents, just a response to some people's request, especially because, as pointed out elsewhere, we are rather skint and we ourselves have abolished a great chunk of our gift giving/card sending this year, so, for example, I am afraid that the various toddler/baby friends Newt has will not be receiving a present this year beyond the results of my customary Christmas baking.

Contrary to custom this is a public post with unscreened comments to allow non LJ users to comment; if you decided that you really want to pick an item from the list, it would be useful if you said so in the comments so that others can know what has been called for.

I am a Montessori mum wanna-be, and whilst I have started making the dressing up frames and I am working towards the touch tablets, there are some things that it's just not possible/practical to try to DIY, but unfortunately can be quite expensive, so contribution towards the thermic tablets and the grading cylinders would be greatly appreciated.

Our young explorer/scientist's observation skills are progressing greatly, so a sturdy yet small LED torch and a non-frangible magnifying glass would definitely keep him fascinated for a long time.

He is incredibly taken with everything musical, has been developing both pitch and rhythm awareness and really engaging with the Music box classes, and he is always exploring the new instruments available. Admittedly he already has a significant collection, yet any of the following will surely make an impact: a frog block, a pair of clappers, for example croc shaped, but you can find them in all shapes, even just handled castanet, or to finally start moving towards melody (and more pleasant sounds for my ears!), an octave set of bells.

Young master also has a passion for anything mechanical that can be put apart and re-assembled again, and has been following daddy around to "help" fix things with his tool set, kindly gifted by lins-arosa for his birthday. So if he could get a toy and actually Build It, it would probably make him very happy. This set has also the advantage that it can be added to later, including gears!

Speaking of gears, he was fascinated by these fridge magnets, which I can see some of our engineer/geek friends will covet too :)

Book wise he was quite taken with this Mr Bump book that had been given to his father, and he loves the MrMen pocket library he received from sebbo and Maj, but he still doesn't have any of the original MrMen Classic Library, which we feel would be quite fun and more appropriate than any of the following elaborations (Christmas themed or sparkly editions).

Otherwise he is finally starting to listen to stories being read to him a bit more and he loves books in general, so any story book is always going to go down well with him, but please avoid castles and knights are these are going to be daddy's special territory.

Finally, given we are in the area of imagination, he has been developing his imaginative play for quite a few months now, and his pretend games are getting more elaborate, so a few props could help. We are not keen on full dressing up outfits, although I must confess that I have material (courtesy of lins_arosa's failed bridesmaid gown) and a design to make a full knight's cape and will be working/choosing accessories for it at a later date (i.e. this is reserved territory too). Maybe more something along the lines of a firefighter helmet, especially given the recent adventure of ending up sat on the driving seat of a real fire engine, or a http://www.elc.co.uk/toy/policemans-helmet/, or a construction one, or maybe, but I am hesitant because of the clutter factor, something like the medical case.

A part from the instruments or the dressing up items, where the links are given for illustration purposes, or where we have not given a specific indication, the items picked are actually the result of us having done some research. If you like the idea of something but it's outside your budget please remember that, especially in our current situation, any contribution is very gratefully received.

Also, the length of this list is only to ensure variety of ideas and budgets, by no means is an indication of requirement or expectation, Master Newt has plenty to be getting on with anyway!

Many thanks for having enquired, hopefully a fuller update will be forthcoming soon!

christmas, family
