Another one bites the dust

Several year's ago, there was a request to boycott South Carolina due to the state flag issue. On a trip from FL to MD, I purposely avoided spending any money (Gas, hotel, food, etc...) in SC. Recent abortion decisions in South Dakota make it prime to skip that as well, but, since I wasn't ever really planning on visiting there anyway, it's not ( Read more... )

Dear Hedwig,

I sympathize with you on this one. It appears that we are of a similar mind on some political issues. I have done some volunteer work on political campaigns, sometimes for a candidate and sometimes for a particular issue or issues, such as Pro Choice. This included spending my vacation time in 2004 in Florida campaigning for Kerry/Edwards. I came down from Connecticut with a group from Planned Parenthood. I like your idea about the boycott, but what about Phoenix Rising? I'm going to have to think about it.

Yes, it probably won't make a difference at this point, but if the organizers of PR had known prior to the event that this was state policy, I would hope that they would've foregone holding an event there. It's up to each individual to make that decision and NOLA could certainly use the help. My wife and I live near Orlando and were considering making the trip, but I, personally, wouldn't go now. That's my choice as well. :)

Side Note:

I saw Senator Kerry in Kissimmee and actually donated to his campaign. I took the second pic while holding the camera in my left hand and shaking his hand with my right. (In case you were wondering why it was so fuzzy :)). Said, "Good luck to you, Senator". Only thing I could come up with and not like I had a lot of time to chat or that he even heard with the music that loud. ;)

Dear Hedwig,

Thanks for the pictures, that's really cool. I was canvassing voters in the Tampa area. I did not get to meet Kerry, but we did get to go to Orlando and see Bruce Springsteen and REM in the vote for change concert.

Who do you like in 2008? Kerry, Gore, Clinton or someone else? They better win, whoever we run that's all I can say.

At this point, without even knowing if he's definitely running, I would say Evan Bayh over any of those three. But, it's still really early. Of course, with the Immigration concerns, Bill Richardson might sneak in as a way long shot. And way out would be if the Dems nominated Barack Obama. Now, that would be interesting ( ... )

We'll have to see how it goes. I actually liked Al Gore quite a bit better than most of the Democrats did before everything happened with the election. I just sort of related a bit to how he was seen as boring and stiff, yet felt so much passion about the issues deep inside. I feel that way sometimes. Its hard to express myself, but I care very deeply. I think it is too soon for Obama, he hasn't even completed his first term. I just hope we can come up with someone with a spark! I've had more than enough of the neo cons, thank you very much!
