Harry Potter!

I was first in line at Bookshop! Go me!

I started Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at 12:07 a.m.-- Laurel read out loud in the car while I was driving people home. I finished at 4:10 a.m. Discounting the drive from Aptos to my house, I've taken a bit under four hours to finish the book. On the whole? I think I prefer copperbadge's Cartographer's Craft, but that's mostly because of Remus.

Spoilers behind cut! Including OMG WHO DIES spoilers. I'm assuming that there are some in comments, too.

-I liked CC better because it was, on the whole, a more cohesive story that DH. Also, fewer people die. And Remus is better.

-WTF, Remus. Serious, serious, WTF. No, you shouldn't have married Tonks. Yes, one of you should have stayed OUT OF THE FUCKING BATTLE so that your SON wouldn't be an orphan. FUCK. AGH. Also, the lack of actual death scenes for Remus and Tonks really sucked.

-....like killing people much, JKR? Srsly. HEDWIG, dude. HEDWIG. Can't even let the boy have his owl. SNAPE. FRED (she HAD to kill a Weasley). MOODY. COLIN. PETER. HARRY.

-SNAPESNAPESNAPE. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I knew you were good, I knew you were Dumbledore's, and while the whole "IN LOVE WITH LILY" thing got kinda predictable, it was still... man, I wish we'd had more Snape. I was right that he and Dumbledore had planned Dumbledore's death a year in advance, and that Snape was *asked* to kill him.

-Molly: annoying at first. But. BUT. "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" Molly. MOLLY. I LOVE YOU. SO HARD.

-I spent a lot of time wishing that the eye in the mirror had been Sirius'; I was pleased that it was Aberforth's, and not Dumbledore's.

-I like the whole dual-quest thing. I LOVED Harry's speech to Ron, about how Hermione's like his sister. I liked that Harry died. I liked that Harry came back to life. I LOVED how the Malfoys are much more concerned with eachother than with Voldemort, I loved that Narcissa betrayed Voldemort for her son, I loved that Draco DIDN'T stay with the Death Eaters (and that they all live through the book, and stick around at the end). I loved Sirius' collection of Muggle porn. I loved how Percy came back, and was so HAPPY to quit the Ministry. I liked Kreacher. I liked how the "Deathly Hallows" were from a children's story-- the lack of actual sense, um, made sense. I liked, as Devlin just put it, that Harry's a 'wand slut.'

-I didn't like Remus, which was sad for me, because he's one of my favourite characters. I think that he should have waited until *after* the war to marry Tonks, and ESPECIALLY to have children. You'd think that he would have learned something from James and Lily, eh? I didn't like how many people died without more than a mention-- we had more with the Muggle Studies teacher than we did with Remus, and that just seems WRONG. I didn't like that Harry got back together with Ginny, in the end (I really liked how he broke up with her, in HBP, so I wish he'd moved on to someone else).

-I liked Harry, which is actually fairly rare for me. I liked how he was mostly logical, except when actually around Ginny. I liked that he *chose* to not go after the Elder Wand. I like that this book was a lot of Harry making choices, and dealing with their consequences, and not just *acting.*

-I want to know who raised Ted Lupin. I'm assuming that it was Andromeda, but it would have been nice to know.

-...in my mind, Harry's Albus and Draco's Scorpius are BFF, and they're in Ravenclaw. Or possibly more than BFF. Heeeeee.

There will probably be more later, but now I have to drive my brother to work.
