So a long couple of weeks. Let's see if I can get it down to a managable size.
First, I'd like to send a big shoutout to my stalker. Hope you find someone else to bother soon.
Several weeks ago I placed an order with an Ebay seller for sock blockers with a rattie cut out. They arrived in a timely fashion and were just as promised. I made mention to the vendor that if they ever make a hedgehog one, please let me know. Well... ask and ye shall
receive . Of course there is a pair on my coffee table as we speak.
Last Sunday was the MD Sheep and Wool Festival. Got over there early and it was a glorious day. I had a list of items I wanted, including a few books, a swift to go with my ball winder and 1500 yards of laceweight cashmere in royal purple for less than $75.00. We scored a perfect 10. Had to hit three vendors to find the books but the laceweight cashmere was a given. As long as Hunt Valley Cashemere is in business, they will have my patronage. 1800 yards of Royal Purple laceweight for 63.50. It's on it's way, Ana Kristine. Along with a new supply of Tastykakes. I also indulged in enough sportweight to knit my mom a pair of socks. Since cashmere doesn't have the spring of wool it should accomodate the swelling of her feet and legs. Didn't get a spindle. I really need to look into finding a spindle that is suitable for a beginner and get to learning myself how to spin. Just for my edification b/c I don't need another hobby.
Got home from the Sheep & Wool festival and took a VERY short nap. Short b/c the phone rang. It was my mom and my dad had fallen. We get over to the house to discover that he's fallen not once, not twice but three times. His face is black and blue and he can't move or breathe without pain.
Off to the ER we go. What a lovely place to spend a Sunday afternoon. Dad triaged with a red bracelet which means he was a high priority. The few minutes we waited before going back to be examined was hellacious. One young man in his 20s was sitting next to us complaining that he was having a stroke. He said his blood pressure was so high he couldn't swallow. He was VERY upset to get a yellow bracelet. His b/p? 130/72. Huh. Another man was there with 10 family members. His issue? Stomach ache and couldn't poop. Seriously.
Dad had a cracked cheekbone, two broken ribs and his bp was running 190/100 so they admitted him (he's never had high bp before this). Six days in the hospital, a change of meds and surgery to open his left carotid artery and he's back home. I spent my birthday in the surgery waiting room. yay. Last year I spent my birthday at the same hospital because my dad had a stroke. I told him he has to stop this.
Working 1/2 days so I could get my mom to the hospital to see dad, taking care of what she needed done and taking care of my own critters and family have taken a toll. I can barely move. I told my husband we need a wheelchair lift on our truck. I can't deal with picking Mom's chair up all the time. Once in a while to go shopping is fine but day in and day out, I need help. We've postponed Mother's Day until next Saturday just to give everyone a chance to settle back into a routine.
Did get my Monsoon socks from the Socks that Rock Club finished and started the new ones. I've never knit socks with silk/wool blend but I may have to knit every single pair from it for the rest of my life. Scrumptious.
Started the Peace Shawl but I'm not getting enough quiet time to work on it. Just managed to finish the first repeat of the stars and haven't picked it up since. Beautiful rose colored Jaegerspun inspires me but I need quiet time. Graphs are not my strong suit.
I want to make EZ's pi shawl. I REALLY need to make that shawl. Not sure why but I have to. So between now and the end of the year I need to plan out the colors. I am seriously thinking that I want it in rainbow. Yes, a rainbow shawl. This begs the question; would it be better to find the 7 colors I want and just change them as a knit or would I get better continuity and blending if I knit the shawl in undyed wool and then painted it while it was blocked? Thoughts?
Although as stressful as things are, I may not be capable of knitting anything other than socks and dishcloths for a while.
Matt bought me a pair of earpins. I must say, I've never worn a more comfortable pair of earrings. Even on the phone all day long they don't pinch or anything. I must have more.
Frost tonight. The locals have always said you don't plant tomatoes until Preakness. And once again they are right. Glad my 'maters are still in the house under a plant light.
